Industry representatives from the cultural and creative sectors will meet in Venice during the International Film Festival for the European Film Forum on 3rd and 4th September 2016. Two workshops, organised by the European Commission, will focus on access to finance and the future of cinema.
The European Film Forum sessions will address alternative modes of financing including the new guarantee facility for the cultural and creative sector recently launched with the European Investment Fund, as well as new modes of investment. A second event will focus on how cinemas can fully reap the benefits of digital technologies and new digital possibilities for film exhibitors.
The Venice International Film Festival is also an opportunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Creative Europe MEDIA programme and to discuss the recent update of EU audiovisual rules as well as the upcoming proposals on the modernisation of EU copyright rules to be presented in the autumn. Next initiatives will aim at further increasing the circulation of European works across borders and supporting the audiovisual sector.
In Venice, eight films supported by the MEDIA sub-programme will be screened, and some will compete, in the Festival’s selections.
The session on access to finance will take place on 3 September from 15.00 to 17.15 at Sala Stucchi, and the session on the future of cinemas will take place on 4 September from 10.00 to 13.00 at Spazio Incontri, Hotel Excelsior, Lungomare Marconi, 41, Lido di Venezia.
