IBC 2019: Event Preview


IBC2019, the industry’s most influential media, entertainment and technology gathering, has prepared an inspiring and innovative program for this year’s event.

In a major change the conference and exhibition dates are now aligned. Both events will take place Friday 13 through until Tuesday 17 September 2019 at the RAI, Amsterdam.

The conference addresses the biggest opportunities and challenges faced by the industry. Keynote speakers will set the tone for the entire event. They will share their respective visions for the future and discuss the current state of the industry.

Headlining the keynotes are Cécile Frot-Coutaz, Head of EMEA, YouTube; Arnaud de Puyfontaine, Chairman, Vivendi; and Max Amordeluso, EU Lead Evangelist, Amazon Alexa, plus 300 expert speakers from around the world.

The main conference is split into five new tracks that will cover:

  • Disruptive new technology in content creation including interactivity and 8K production

  • Automation in the media supply chain including the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies

  • Disruptive new business models in publishing content, impacting TV platform businesses worldwide

  • Consumer engagement and “next generation” fan-engagement

  • Scaling audiences and revenues, shining a light on “brands as broadcasters” and new forms of advertising.

Tech Talks will accompany each track, with technical paper sessions by leading experts, facilitating discussions on how technology is enables the media content chain.

Other featured tracks during the IBC 2019 conference include:

The Global Gamechangers stage returns to IBC, with a slate of  innovators and business disruptors from across the media, entertainment and technology spectrum. Among those who will share their successes and stimulate debate are Gary Shapiro, President and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (USA); Jane Turton, CEO, All3Media (UK), and Lisa Opie, Managing Director, UK Production, BBC Studios.


The IBC Esports Showcase, supported by ESL, Lagardère and EVS, will feature for the first time a full esports tournament to be staged in the Auditorium. One of the fastest growing sectors in the industry, esports continues to experience unprecedented global growth. This showcase will demonstrate the size and scale of a typical esports event including and will include panels, keynotes and interviews.

The Media Telecom Catalyst projects – a collaboration between IBC and the TM Forum - will showcase three projects exploiting 5G, AI, and data management technologies to solve business challenges and improve customer experience. The Catalyst projects aim to drive innovation between telecoms and media industry partners. Participants include Al Jazeera, Associated Press, BBC R&D and Irish publich broadcaster, RTÉ

IBC’s Big Screen events feature the very latest cinema projection and sound equipment. This year there will be sessions from the BBC Studios Natural History Unit ahead of David Attenborough’s next big wildlife epic, plus an exclusive screening of controversial Game of Thrones episode “The Long Night”, and the team behind Toy Story, in line with the release of Toy Story 4 will also be showcased.

Three further strands include The Leaders Forum, the Cyber Security Forum and the Telco & Media Innovation Forum will run concurrently. These events bring together the industry’s most influential executives to discuss and debate the future of the industry.

The prestigious IBC Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 15 September to celebrate the industry’s highest achievements along with the Best Stand Design Awards recognizing outstanding exhibition stand design. IBC will also present two new awards this year: The Young Pioneer Award, recognizing outstanding commitment, ambition and achievement of young professionals in creative, technical, commercial or strategic roles; and the Social Impact Award, in recognition of a company initiative or campaign that is making a positive impact in the wider world.
